Eastern Sweeps Eagles

BELLEVUE – Northwest endured a pair of tough losses at the hands of Eastern Oregon, falling 9-1 and 4-3.

"We missed an opportunity in that second game to pick up some ground on our playoff bid, and that's disappointing, but we have another opportunity tomorrow," said NU Head Coach Pam Fink. "Don't count us out!"

EOU 9, NU 1

Eastern rapped out 15 hits, none bigger than Kayla Berg's grand slam to cap a six unearned-run inning.

The Eagles were slowed on three hits—a double by Jordan Dippel and singles by Madisyn Leffle and Kayla Stanley. Dippel broke the school single-season record with her 47th hit, breaking the school record of 46. She finished the day with 48 hits on the season.

Leffle, in her first season at NU, broke the school record for career stolen bases with her 46th of the season. Leffle also gunned down two runners at the plate from her center field position.

Bella King allowed three earned runs and took the loss.

EOU 4, NU 3

Eastern's Madison Stateler had a solo home run in the top of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie.

The Eagles led early, scoring in the first inning when Dippel singled and later scored on an RBI single by Alyssa Maldonado.

EOU tied the game in the third, but the Eagles took a 3-1 lead in the home half. After consecutive singles by Stanley, Emily Barry, and Maldonado to start the inning, Nicola Fish lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1, and Barry scored on a grounder by Abby Blahut.

The bottom of the EOU order came up big to tie the game in the fourth with a sacrifice fly by Haley Ebner and an RBI single by Shelby Starr.

Becca Rennick went the distance to take the loss for NU.

Northwest had six hits, led by Maldonado with two. Dippel, Stanley, Barry, and Jessica Nunes had one hit each. Barry also surpassed the old single-season school record with her 47th hit.

The same two teams finish off the series with an 11 a.m. doubleheader, followed by Senior Day festivities for eight Eagles.
