KIRKLAND – Northwest kept its home scoreless streak going and opened the Cascade Collegiate Conference season with a 1-0 win over Southern Oregon on Saturday.
Â
Elizabeth Moretti scored the game's only goal in the 10
th minute, playing home a well-positioned pass by
Olivia Morris. It was Moretti's third goal and second game-winner of the season. The assist was the second of the year for Morris.
Â
The Northwest defense was smothering and allowed just four shots for the contest and
Hanne Breur secured the only shot on goal to pick up her fifth shutout of the season. The Eagles have not allowed a goal on the home pitch and only one on the road.
Â
"We played a solid game today against a very good opponent," said NU Head Coach
Bryan Chud. "Scoring early was crucial, and although it would've been nice to settle the game down with another goal or two, overall, I felt like we were in control and defended well as a team once again."
Â
The Eagles launched 16 shots for the afternoon and put eight on goal.
Maya Lewis had four shots and three of those were on frame.
Liv Lagerquist,
Sarah Hansen,
Kayla Soderstrom,
Anna Lau, and Moretti all tested the keeper once.
Â
Jessie Selby had seven saves for the Raiders.
Â
Oregon Tech visits the Eagles Saturday after a 3-2 win at Evergreen State on Friday. Game time is 12:30 p.m.
