Volleyball Sweeps Walla Walla on the Road

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – Northwest put an end to its three-match slide with a 3-0 win at Walla Walla on Friday, taking the victory 25-20, 25-15, 25-17.

Abigail Broussard, Karste Wright, and Delaney Sparks gave the Eagles a strong attack. Broussard and Wright had eight kills each with Sparks tacking on seven. Broussard had a strong afternoon with a .467 attack percentage and a pair of blocks.

Anna Saelens led the Eagles with 16 assists.

Kelsey Moore came up with a team-leading 22 digs and five aces in the three sets.

"Impressed with Walla Walla's resolve to serve tough and play clean," said NU Head Coach Steven Bain. "They were patient on offense and we weren't so we made too many errors in tough swing situations. Fortunately, we were strong enough from the service line to pressure their ability to side out and that allowed us to score points and make plays to close out the match."

The Wolves kept pace with the Eagles in the first set but NU broke away late with a set-ending 4-1 run that consisted of two Kaitlyn Mickle kills and two aces by Moore.

After falling behind 7-6 in the second set, NU rattled off a 5-0 run, fueled by two aces by Reece Denney and kills by Mickle and Kylie Lunday.

The Eagles ended the set on a 5-0 run with two aces by Broussard and kills by Wright and Lunday.

Northwest took control of the third set, turning around a 12-9 deficit with an 8-1 run. Broussard had three kills, Caitlyn James added two aces, and Broussard and Sparks shared a block in the run.

The Eagles closed out the match on a 5-1 run, punctuated by an ace by Moore.

Northwest improved to 7-7 overall and 3-3 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. NU visits Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho, at 5 p.m., Saturday.
