GREAT FALLS – Northwest scored late to gain a tie and one point in the Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer standings Saturday at Providence.
Â
The Eagles were dominant in terms of ball control but couldn't get the finish they needed for much of the game.
Â
Providence scored in the 71
st minute on a goal by Mika Lankhof but the Eagles finally broke through in the 87
th minute when
Jacen Stein scored with an assist from
Jack Eberl.
Â
"We dominated possession today but we just cannot find the back of the net," said NU Head Coach Gary McIntosh. "It's something that we will just have to work on this week before the next two games. The team showed good care today, never quitting, to find a goal to tie the game."
Â
The Eagles were credited with 10 shots for the day, led by
Elliot Misic with four. NU tested the UP keeper four times with shots on goal by Stein,
Ryota Uchikoshi,
Noah Prophet and
Max Herrig.
Â
Michael Kot had two saves for the goalkeeper win.
Â
Now 3-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the CCC, the Eagles host next weekend with Walla Walla coming in on Friday and Carroll on Saturday.
