Eagles Shut Down Providence, 4-0

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Northwest ran its shutout streak to five games with a 4-0 win at Providence on Saturday.

The Eagles achieved their eighth shutout of the season, tied for the lead in the NAIA. The shutout is a NAIA-leading eighth goalkeeper shutout for freshman Hanne Breur, who had four saves on Saturday.

NU got on the board in the third minute with Trinity Mischel scoring with an assist from Kayla Soderstrom. That 1-0 lead lasted the rest of the half.

Maya Lewis scored in the 55th minute to boost the Eagles to a more comfortable level. The Eagles finished in a fury with goals by Soderstrom in the 82nd minute and Colette Liston in the 85th.

"We did a good job today of raising the level and getting the three points," said NU Head Coach Bryan Chud. "Once again, our defending was good, and it was nice to get goals from four different players. This is a really tough road trip and I'm extremely pleased with the squad and how we took care of business."

NU had 29 shots in the contest, including seven by Gracie VanAssche and six by Soderstrom. The Eagles put 16 shots on goal, led by VanAssche with four, Soderstrom with three, Lliston, Mischel and Elizabeth Moretti with two each and Maggie Gunning,, Lewis, and Rachel Russell with one apiece.

Now 7-0-2 on the season and 3-0-1 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the Eagles head home to face Carroll on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
