Eagles Rally but Fall Late to Lions

KIRKLAND – Multnomah's Neyland Block hit two free throws with six seconds left to lead Multnomah to a 78-76 win over Northwest on Saturday after the Eagles had rallied from 22 points down.

CaCoa Chatman, who tied the game with 33 seconds left, missed at the buzzer on what would have been his fifth three-pointer of the game. He ended with 22 points and shared NU scoring honors with O'Shae Barquet, who was making his Eagles debut.

The Eagles had trailed by 22 points with 12 minutes to go in the first half but whittled that deficit down to 51-38 by halftime.

NU opened with the first 14 points of the second half, including seven by Chatman and five by Barquet to take a 52-51 lead just four minutes in. MU got the lead back out to 10 but Lewis Pope tied the game at 64-64 midway through the final half.

"Tough one," said NU Head Coach Rick Skeen. "Got down 22 again in the first half but showed the grit and resilience to bounce back.   will need to figure out how to help my guys get off to a better start."

AJ Chappell scored 12 and Lewis Pope came up with 10 points, three assists and two steals Isaiah Dunn finished with eight points and a team-leading eight rebounds.

Tyrese Taylor led the Lions with 23 points and 13 rebounds.

The Eagles return to action on Friday with a 2 p.m. tipoff at Walla Walla.
