Eagles Clean Sweep to End First Half of League Play: 3-0

KIRKLAND, WA - Northwest University women's volleyball dialed in tonight, and escaped with a clean sweep over Oregon Tech, 25-17, 25-17, 25-19.

The Eagles jumped at an early lead of 2-0 to start off the first set on account of two kills from Kaitlyn Mickle. NU extended their lead and pushed a 15-8 lead before Oregon Tech's six point stretch, resulting in a 15-13 set. The Eagles chipped away, doing what they do best, and fed their attackers all the way to a 25-17 set win.

The Owls came out in the second set and dealt the Eagles of a new hand of confidence, taking the lead at 6-1. A couple Owl errors partner with three Eagle kills tied the set at 6-6. NU ran with its momentum and found themselves ahead 16-10. Six consecutive Eagle points bumped NU ahead 23-16, which led to a 25-17 second frame win.

Once again, the Owls took an early lead at 9-2 to start the third set. The Eagles reassembled and kills from Jaelyn Moeva, Karste Wright, and Allie Flynn lit the fire they needed to finish out the match. NU took its first lead of the third set at 17-16 and seven more consecutive points in the Eagle's favor suddenly made it 24-19. A well deserve match-ending ball was fed to Jaelyn Moeva from Morgan Harter, which was killed by the freshman and solidified the Saturday night sweep.

Head Coach Steve Bain says, "Oregon Tech was as fierce as we expected them to be and brought great energy to tonight's match, which gave us an opportunity to match their effort. Each set was hard fought, and Oregon Tech was able to pressure us, especially in sets 2 and 3 when they jumped out to early leads. In that regard, it was terrific to see our ladies respond and commit to doing the things that would allow us to get back into the match  Again, first contacts were key and when the sets were on the line, we were able to make the plays and close out the match. We are looking forward to a day off and the opportunity to reset and refresh as we begin the second half of CCC play."

Kaitlyn Mickle collected 15 kills and Karste Wright ended with eight. Allie Flynn had 18 assists and Morgan Harter, fifteen.

On the defensive end, Kalli Budge totaled five blocks followed by Jaelyn Moeva with three. Kelsey Moore returned to play with 14 digs, and Ellie Van Berkum with 12.

The Eagles have a short rest time as they start the second half of the season on October 3, at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA. Last time the NU faced the Geoducks, the Eagles took at three sets, 25-13, 25-17, 25-23.
