COLLEGE PLACE, WA - A ruthless Northwest University men's soccer team fired on all cylinders today, scoring six goals against Walla Walla University, and allowing zero.
Coming off of a two-goal game on Friday, Tyler Hopp lead the Eagles to victory once again with NU's first hat trick of the season.Â
Hopp's first goal to put the Eagles ahead 1-0 was assisted by Corbin Herrera just 1:13 into the match.
In the 14th minute, Jacen Stein connected with a ball from Damian Santos to extend the lead.
Hopp's second goal of the match was assisted by Setio Gao in the 26th minute.Â
Just six minutes later, Seito Gao fed another ball, this time to Andre Santos, who put NU ahead 4-0.
Northwest had a comfortable lead going into the second half, but Hopp's continuous pressure forward awarded with his third goal in the 52nd minute, assisted by Matthew Ludlow.
The Eagle's final goal by Corbin Herrera in the 65th minute put NU ahead 6-0.
As the offense pushed on one side of the field, the Eagle defense kept their half clean allowing zero shots on goal for the entire match. Michael Kot receives the win in goal and the Eagle's sixth shutout of the season
"We did exactly what we wanted to do today and it was great to see," said Head Coach Gary McIntosh. "The starting group came out focused and took control of the game. Tyler Hopp had a great day getting three goals. I was pleased with the substitutions and how they played today, they kept the level of play high. Any time you travel on the road in this conference and get two wins is a great weekend. Defensively, we were sound in both games. Tyler Hopp had an amazing weekend scoring five goals and an assist. I am very pleased with the focus of the team this weekend. Now, we just keep this momentum going into the next week back home."
Northwest will host two home games next weekend, starting at 12:30 pm on October, 20 against the University of Providence.Â
