KIRKLAND, WA - A pair of goals for the Northwest University men's soccer team was not enough to pull out a win over the University of Providence this afternoon. The men opened up their two-game senior weekend with a tough loss, 2-5.
Goals by the Argos in the 24th and 28th minutes put the visiting team ahead 2-0 going into the second half.
Angel Ventura fed a quick ball to Jacen Stein who scored the Eagles' first goal of the game one minute into the second half, putting NU within reaching distance.
The Agros responded fairly quickly, extending their lead in the 53rd minute. Providence carried its momentum and had a more comfortable lead at 4-1 in the 76th minute.
Northwest University's Joao Lucas Fonseca connected with a ball from Matthew Ludlow to help the Eagles inch closer in the 87th minute.
The Agros followed with their fifth goal 20 seconds before the final horn.
The Eagles totaled 21 shots, nine on goal. Jacen Stein ended with three shots on target.
Head Coach Gary McIntosh says, "Today was disappointing. We must play better moving forward. This was a tough lesson to learn this late in the season. Tomorrow we need to get the job done on senior day."
The Eagles will match up with Carroll College tomorrow at 12:30 pm as well as honor their seven seniors for their last conference home game of the season.Â
