KIRKLAND, WA - The Northwest University women's volleyball team's demand to protect home court overwhelmed Lewis-Clark State's desire for redemption. The Eagle's earned their sixth win in a row tonight, 25-17, 25-23, 25-18.
Lewis-Clark State battled until the end of every set, but the Eagles' ability to finalize when it came to game point was unmanageable for the Warriors.
The Eagles pulled away in the first set with six points in a row to give them a 15-8 lead. From then, the teams exchanged points, but the early gap gave the Eagles a 25-17 win, secured by a kill from Karste Wright.
NU inched its way to a 16-11 lead in the second set, but a few Warrior kills put LCSC back in, trailing 20-18. A few Eagle errors led to a tied set at 22-22, but a kill from Delaney Sparks gave NU the one-point lead. Two Warrior errors solidified the second-set win.
Kaitlyn Mickle opened up the third set with a kill leading to a 3-0 lead. The Warriors livened and took their first lead of the night at 9-8 on a 6-0 run. The Eagles answered with a 6-0 run of their own, giving them a comfortable lead until the final point of the match.
Head Coach Steve Bain says, "There was terrific energy on the court tonight, and I was impressed with LCSC's relentless effort. They were strong from the service line, which kept us under pressure throughout the match. Our first contacts were also strong and that, combined with our patience on offense, allowed us to score in transition and make the key plays when the sets were on the line. This was a good weekend for the Eagles, and we look forward to another week of preparation and a challenging road trip next week."
Mickle led the offense with 13 kills. Wright and Sparks each had seven. Sparks had her seven kills on 10 attempts (.600).
Kylie Lunday and Sparks had a great presence at the net, each totaling two blocks. Lunday ended with five kills and Kalli Budge with six kills on 12 attemps (.500).
Kelsey Moore adds to her collection of digs with 11 tonight.Â
The Eagles are back on the road next weekend, facing The College of Idaho first on October 13, at 7 pm.
