KIRKLAND, WA - Northwest kicked off the Cascade Challenge tournament with a hard-fought exhibition against Whitman College, 54-73.
A slow start for both sides led to teams trading points and the Eagles leading by two into the second quarter. Northwest continued to put the pressure on as they deepened their lead to six, but the Blues responded and took the lead going into halftime. While the Eagles struggled offensively in the third quarter, Whitman took that opportunity to stretch their lead.
"A disappointing game for us," said Head Coach
Ken Crawford. "We need to learn to be more consistent on both ends of the court. We are expecting to get even more leadership and consistency from our experienced players. Tomorrow is another opportunity for us."
Kyrin Baklund led the Eagles with nine points, and
Alli VanKooten totaled eight points and eight rebounds.
The Eagles face Jessup University Saturday at 5 p.m. to close out the home tournament.
