SPOKANE, WA - Men's basketball closed out their difficult pre-season in Spokane with an 83-95 loss to the Whitworth Pirates.
While the Eagles could not find the basket to start, they found their rhythm and made a fight to come back. Whitworth capitalized on NU's slow start and gained a 25-point lead in the first half, but the Eagles did not roll over.
As shots started falling, Northwest began to gain ground and put pressure on the Pirates.
Milton Burnett led the charge with 26 points and
Nash Wobrock with 13 points.
Djordje Mitrovic tallied nine rebounds. Ultimately, the clock was the Eagles' enemy as Whitworth maintained its lead to end the game.
"Our guys had a chance to quit tonight but battled back and had the game within six in the second half," said NU Head Coach Rick Skeen. "We were down 24-7 and then won the rest of the game 76-71. Our offense looked much better today as we really moved the ball. We continue to grow with each game and hope to be finally healthy after the break."
Northwest begins conference play at Lewis-Clark State College at 7 p.m. on November 30.
