LEWISTON, ID - Northwest began its Cascade Conference season against the LC State Warriors, falling 72-83.
The two teams proved evenly matched as they traded shots early in the game. While the Warriors took the lead, the Eagles kept within striking distance. As the first half closed out, the Eagles missed key shots that gave the Warriors a ten-point lead.
The Eagles scored the first nine points of the second half, cutting the deficit to one. LC State bounced back and started to see shots fall. The Warriors built back their lead, and the Eagles were unable to come back.
Lewis Pope led the Eagles with 19 points, while
Luke Howard brought home 13.
"We had a slow start but competed much better in the second half," said Head Coach Rick Skeen. "Foul trouble hurt us as both our starting posts fouled out in less than 18 minutes of play. We need to get better at playing without fouling."
Northwest takes on Walla Walla at 2 p.m. on Friday.
