LEWISTON, ID - The Eagles opened conference play against the No. 8 Lewis-Clark State Warriors, falling just short, 71-79.
Northwest started the game strong and got out to a quick lead. Through the first quarter, the Eagles looked like they could not be stopped as they widened their lead to 13.
The Warriors came out strong in the second quarter and quickly diminished that lead. Through the majority of the game, the two teams went shot for shot trading leads. The fourth quarter opened with the Eagles up by one. A few late turnovers helped the Warriors take the lead and get the win.
Maya DuChesne led both teams with a high of 26 points.
Alli VanKooten tallied 15 points, and
Kyrin Baklund landed 14.
"A strong effort tonight by the Lady Eagles against the number eight nationally ranked LC State Warriors," said NU Head Coach
Ken Crawford. "A close ball game with the lead exchanging hands more than once throughout the game. We made some mistakes towards the end of the game, and that was the difference. I think we're continuing to learn and to get better. We just need to remain focused and become more consistent."
Northwest heads to Walla Walla for a Friday afternoon contest at noon.
