SPRINGFIELD, OR - After a 1-0 upset over No. 3 seed, Eastern Oregon, the women's soccer team will be returning to the 2023 CCC Championship game to defend its 2022 title.
"This was definitely the best game we have played yet this season," says Head Coach April VanAssche. "We had so many different players that gave everything they had and then some to get this win! I'm so proud of this team, and every single one of these players. Getting the goal early in this game was definitely something we talked about. It was great to see how much composure, team play, and grit that was shown tonight. I'm so excited for this group to get the opportunity to play for the championship trophy again this year and of course we are beyond excited to be headed back to nationals! Go Eagles!"
Grace Burke's goal in the 15th minute of play, assisted by Monste Youngsman, was the lone goal of the match, and her sixth of the season.Â
A powerful defensive line blanked the Mounties, with relentless minutes from Callie Barnett, Donnya Kvinge, Elizabeth Moretti, Halley Marschall and Liv Lagerquist.Â
In goal, RiaJo Schwartz recorded her second shutout of the tournament.Â
The Championship game will take place on Friday, Nov. 10 at 3 P.M. at Civic Park in Eugene, OR. Both teams have secured the CCC's two automatic berths to the NAIA Championship Tournament.
