KIRKLAND – Northwest missed a pair of potential game-tying three-pointers in the closing seconds and lost to Evergreen State 58-55 on Tuesday.
Â
NU trailed 57-50 with 46 seconds left but used a put-back by
Morgan Marshall and a three-pointer by
Esther Pappuleas to make it a three-point game with 16 seconds left.
Â
After forcing a turnover, the Eagles missed two tough three-pointers despite getting their fifth offensive rebound of the final 44 seconds.
Â
"Definitely a tough loss," said NU Head Coach
Ken Crawford. "Just could not put together a consistent offensive effort the whole night. We made some good plays down the end to make it close, but our shooting has to improve!"
Â
Maya DuChesne led NU with 14 points with three assists and three steals, while Marshall added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Kylie Lunday added seven points and 12 rebounds.
Â
Jailyn Sackrider led the Geoducks with 17 points, followed by Lily Stewart with 11 and Monique Bungay with 10.Â
Â
The loss pushed the Eagles to two games off the playoff pace, having lost the head-to-head tiebreaker with Evergreen, with four games remaining. The teams have the same remaining opponents.
Â
Northwest heads to Portland this weekend for a Friday contest at Multnomah before the final road game of the season at Warner Pacific on Saturday.
