No. 12 CI Rallies Late to Sweep Eagles

BELLEVUE – Twelfth-ranked College of Idaho scored three runs in the seventh inning to complete a sweep of Northwest, winning 4-1 and 5-4 on Friday.

"Our pitchers did well today and we played them well," said NU Head Coach Pam Fink. "College of Idaho just has a lot of experience in clutch situations. We'll lace 'em up against tomorrow and try again."

Tanner Higgins doubled in a run to give the Yotes a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the first game, but the Eagles got the run back in the home half with an RBI single by Sydney Maurer.

CI took a 2-1 lead in the third on an RBI ground out by Haley Loffer, went up 3-1 in the fifth on an RBI by Kaylee MacDannald and Madelyn Powell singled in the final run in the top of the seventh.

NU produced five hits in the game – singles by Madisyn Leffle, Paige Creasey, Jemelah Lewis, Abby Blahut and Maurer.

Natalie Dimitrov took the loss.

The Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the second game on a three-run home run by Maurer – her sixth of the season – which raised her RBI total to 41. Only her injured teammate, Emily Barry, has reached 40 RBIs in a season at NU.

Makenna Luke and Hallie Holland produced RBI singles to make it a 3-2 game in the second inning.

Leffle singled, stole second and scored on an error in the third for a 4-2 lead. It was Leffle's 25th stolen base of the season, which is tied for second in the NAIA.

Luke had an RBI single and Holland drove in the tying run with a fielder's choice before MacDannald doubled in the eventual game-winner with two outs.

Bella King took the loss.

The Eagles had six hits, led by Leffle and Creasey with two each. Maurer and King had one apiece.

The Yotes and Eagles finish the series with a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
