BROOKINGS, South Dakota –
Micah Murphy closed out the Indoor Track & Field season with a sixth place finish in the 5000 M on Saturday.
Â
Murphy clocked in a new school record with a time of 14:46.31 and received All-American honors.
Â
"Praise God for days like today: a school record and All-American honors!" said Head Coach
Mark Mandi. "Micah did a great job of staying controlled in the first half of the race, even taking the lead at one point after the mile. Then, one of the competitors took the lead just past the halfway point and really started to push the pace and fell as far back as 8th place. With a couple of laps to go, however, he started to find some momentum and dug deep to finish 6th. Overall, a successful weekend at nationals and we look forward to building off the success of today."
Â
Appearing in his first finals at a NAIA Championships, Murphy dug deep to finish sixth overall. Murphy will continue his year and compete in the Outdoor Track & Field season that kicks off next week at the PLU Invitational.
