Eagles Split Slugfests with Bushnell

BELLEVUE – Northwest and Bushnell combined for 42 runs in a doubleheader split on Thursday.
 
The Eagles won the opener on a walk-off 11-10 and lost in extra innings in the second game, 12-9.
 
"We played good defense and we hit the ball well; there are just things we have to keep working on in the circle," said NU Head Coach Pam Fink. "We will come back tomorrow and get after it again."
 
Northwest scored six runs in the first inning of the opener behind an RBI double from Paige Creasey, an RBI single by Cedella Ritchie, an RBI fielder's choice by Chloe Van Boekhout and a three-run double by Bella King.
 
Bushnell scored seven in the third inning to take the lead, highlighted by a two-run double by Madison Steelman.
 
NU tied the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Olivia Brown and took a 9-7 lead in the fourth on a two-run single by Van Boekhout.
 
Hannah Tennant and Krystal Akagi added RBI singles in the sixth as the Beacons took a 10-9 lead.
 
The Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Ritchie and won it in the 10th with Sydney Maurer's two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.
 
Maurer picked up the pitching win in relief.
 
The Eagles had 13 hits, led by Madisyn Leffle, Kayla Stanley, Maurer, Creasey and Brown with two each.
 
Northwest scored twice in the first inning of the second game with an RBI single by Maurer and a Bushnell error.
 
Bushnell took a 3-2 lead in the fourth with Alyssa Ferreira delivering the go-ahead RBI.
 
The Eagles scored three times in the fifth, including an RBI single by Maurer and an RBI double by Creasey.
 
NU added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take an 8-3 lead, including an RBI single by Creasey.
 
The Beacons scored six times in the top of the seventh, taking a 9-8 lead on a two-run double by Mandy Fetters.
 
Abby Blahut came through with a game-tying double in the bottom of the seventh but Akagi blasted a three-run double in the top of the eighth.
 
The Eagles got the tying run to the plate but ran out of chances in the bottom of the eighth.
 
NU had 12 hits in the game, led by Maurer with three. Leffle, Creasey, Blahut and King had two each.
 
Faith Wayman had five hits and Akagi added four for Bushnell.
 
The teams close out the series Friday with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
