Firebirds Top Eagles, 3-1

SAN MARCOS, Ca - The women were only able to knock one set off the Firebirds today in a 1-3 match. Set finals were 20-5, 12-25, 25-21, and 21-25.

While NU had the Firebirds beat in kills for the first set 11 to 8, the 7 errors to Saint Katherines' 1 resulted in a 20-25 loss.

Set two got away from the Eagles early as the Firebirds picked up 12 kills total.

The largest lead for the Eagles began in the third set at 13-8. A kill by Azaria Johnson followed by 3 aces from Masa Spela Jarc put NU up 23-19, eventually formulating a 25-21 win.

The Eagles started to inch their way back in the fourth set but it was not enough to keep the Firebirds from the match win.

Head Coach Steve Bain says, "We had some first game jitters and they were compounded by USK's aggressive serving. We were in tough swing situations the entire match. Credit to USK for their ability to take advantage of the situations. It's only one match, and we will be better next time we take the court."

Kill leaders today include Delaney Sparks (10), Susanna Bailey (7), and Azaria Johnson (6).

Kelsey Moore had 17 of NU's 44 digs.

Volleyball has one day off before they have a doubleheader on Friday against Doane University and The Masters University in Fullerton, CA.
