LA GRANDE, OR - The Eagles faced another tough opponent on this road trip as they traveled to Eastern Oregon University. Despite a strong finish, Northwest ran out of time to catch up to the Mountaineers as they fell 72-62.
Throughout the first quarter, Northwest kept it a close game while not letting EOU gain too much distance. Unfortunately, the Mountaineers were able to close out the half strong and went into halftime with a 13-point lead over the Eagles.
Eastern was able to expand on their lead throughout the third quarter, forcing the Eagles to work their way out of a deep hole, though Northwest continued to fight. The Eagles saw their best shooting in the fourth quarter with a 52.4 field-goal percentage. Unfortunately, Northwest ran out of time and could not make up enough ground to take the lead.
"Great effort in the game tonight versus Eastern Oregon University," said NU Head Coach
Ken Crawford. "We continue to improve in lots of aspects of the game. Now we are entering the second half of the season, and it needs to pay off!"
Kylie Lunday had a big night for the Eagles with her second double-double of the weekend, scoring 20 points and securing 16 rebounds.
Alli VanKooten also earned a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Northwest will host Walla Walla University and Lewis-Clark State College next weekend. The Eagles will play Walla Walla at noon on Friday and LC State will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
