OLYMPIA, WA - Northwest traveled south to The Evergreen State College to face off in a weekday showdown. The Eagles were able to finish strong and seal the victory, 68-65.
The first half proved a back-and-forth battle as the Eagles and Geoducks traded points. Neither team was willing to let the other slip away, as there were ten lead changes in the first half. As the two teams fought hard, Northwest went into the half up by four.
The Geoducks had a strong third quarter to put pressure on the Eagles. With 0:58 left in the third quarter, Evergreen State made three big shots to give them a six-point lead to go into the final ten minutes.Â
The Eagles showed their determination by starting the fourth quarter strong and taking back the lead within the first three minutes. While the Geoducks did not shy away, Northwest was able to have its strongest quarter at the end, which resulted in a win.Â
"An important win for the Lady Eagles tonight," said NU Head Coach Ken Crawford. "It gives us the tiebreaker against a tough Evergreen State team. We have a big weekend coming up. We're looking forward to everyone coming out, supporting the teams, and enjoying all the activities. Go Eagles!"
Kyrin Baklund led the Eagles with 19 points. Kylie Lunday secured a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds on the night.
Northwest will host Bushnell University on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
