OLYMPIA, WA - Northwest was able to hold on to claim the mid-week victory against a gritty Evergreen State team, 79-73.
Â
The first ten minutes saw an even battle as the teams stayed neck and neck with each other. As the second part of the first half played out, Northwest was able to stretch its lead to give some cushion, leading by 17 with 3:58 left before halftime. While the Geoducks went on a run to end the half, Northwest was able to maintain an eight-point lead.Â
Â
As the second half got underway, the Evergreen State cut into NU's lead and made the Eagles work to keep it. While the Geoducks came within two points multiple times, Northwest always had an answer not to give up the lead in the second half. Ultimately, the Eagles held on to capture the win.Â
Â
"This was a really big win for us," said Head Coach Rick Skeen. "Conference road wins are hard to come by. It wasn't pretty, as we turned the ball over too much, but the guys gutted out a win. Another big night by Luke and Lewis."
Â
Northwest was led by
Luke Howard who secured a double-double with 28 points and 12 rebounds. He was followed by
Lewis Pope with 16 points.Â
Â
The Eagles take on Bushnell University at home on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
