Eagles Score Last-Minute Equalizer in the Elements

Kirkland, WA - Northwest men's team squeak in a very last minute goal to tie Rocky Mountain College, 1-1.

Each side had to battle the elements as the rain and wind progressively worsened, making the field conditions even worse. The Battlin' Bears were able to find the net in the19th minute after breaking through the Eagles' defense. While NU tried to fight back with seven shots in the first half, most of them were blocked.

The second half had more slips and slides as the wind and rain continued to beat down on the pitch. NU had trouble generating offense from the midfield during stretches. During the 67th minute, NU seemingly got a ball past the Bears' goalie, but it was ruled offside. This made the Eagles hungry for that elusive first goal, and it would come in the final minute. Damien Santos was able to drill the ball after an opening was created to send the Eagles home with the draw.

"This team never ever quits, and I'm proud of the guys for that," exclaimed Head Coach Gary McIntosh. "If we could put away some of our opportunities, we could make it easier for ourselves. We created good chances to score, but the ball has not been going in for us. This week we will work on a few things that I think can help us, and then we are on the road to Montana for the next few games."
