Eagles Clinch Tournament Desipte Loss

Kirkland, WA - The Northwest women's team fell to Oregon Tech, 3-0, on Saturday but clinched a spot in the CCC Tournament.

Due to the conditions of the NU Athletic Fields, the game had to be moved to Bellevue College.

It was Senior Night for the Eagles, as seven of the womens' players were honored, including Annika McGowan, Trinity Mischel, McKenna Ramoso, Rachel Russell, Charly Scherbarth, Caroline Sontra, and Anais Stephany.

The game started quietly, with both teams' defenses holding out and maintaining their strong positions. The Owls launched the first attack with a goal in the 19th minute with a cross to midfielder Kiana Jacobson. The Eagles responded with great passing and a good look in the 36th minute, but nothing came out of it.

The second half was all Owls. In the 60th minute, Kayla Ness secured the insurance goal with help from a cross by Jacobson (her second point of the game) to the near post where Ness scored. The third goal from the Owls came ten minutes later with the goal going to midfielder Caneel Corpuz.

Despite the loss, the Eagles were able to secure a spot in the tournament thanks to coming in seventh in the rankings with a total of 17 points but fell short of sixth seed due to a tiebreaker that favored Southern Oregon. The Eagles will take on the Owls once again in the CCC Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 10, at Lithia and Driveway Fields in Medford, OR.

"We are looking forward to next weekend at the conference tournament," said Head Coach April VanAssche. "This team as a whole has improved greatly this season. I am looking forward to seeing all that God has planned for us as we finish out this season. I am proud of each of these players and what they have accomplished on and off the field. They are a very competitive team that sticks together, and I am excited for this next week. Let's go, Eagles!"
