Kirkland, WA - The Northwest men's basketball team loses in the second half against Warner Pacific, 84-72.
After the Eagles kept their game against the Multnomah Lions close but ended up falling short, they looked to continue the momentum against the Knights who came off of two wins against the Linfield Wildcats and the Evergreen Geoducks.
The first half was rather back-and-forth with neither team gaining a clear advantage, but the Eagles managed to stay on top at the end of the half. The Eagles shot 45.5% and hit 35.7% of their threes. The Eagles were only able to draw two free throws; both of them were missed. The Knights kept up by shooting for 36%, made 30% of their free throws, and hit three of their four free throws.
The second half was where the Eagles' defense crumbled and allowed for the Knights' offense to awaken. The Knights shot for 66.7%, hit 71.4% of their threes, and drilled 77.8% of their free throws for 52 total points. While the Eagles hit 40% of their shots and made 68.8% of their free throws, they only shot 13.3% of their threes. It was these factors that allowed for the Knights to take the win.
Tay Aubry-Thomas, Nash Wobrock, and Trent Williams all pulled together for 12 points on the night, while Sean Jackson of the Knights pulled off 21 points for the whole game.
"Another tough loss in a game that was right there for us," said Head Coach Rick Skeen. "We continue to struggle with turnovers, free throws, and lay-ins. We also need to find some consistency from the three point line. Our guys are battling. The break will be good for all of us, and we can get back to work."
