Eagles Start New Year With Bitter Loss

Klamath Falls, OR - The Northwest men's basketball team gets handed a big loss to Oregon Tech, 85-56, to start the new year.

After a needed rest during Christmas break, the Eagles returned hoping to turn their ship around after ending the year with back-to-back home losses against Multnomah and Warner Pac. The Owls finished 2024 with a three-game win streak against Southern Oregon, Bushnell, and Corban.

It was a story of David and Goliath where Goliath won the bout. The Owls outscored the Eagles in the first half, 43-30, and outshot the Eagles 47.8% to 40%. Where the Owls really got the upper hand on the Eagles was in the three-pointers. The Owls shot for 44.4% of their threes, whereas the Eagles only mustered 16.7%

The second half was when  the Owls took center stage, outscoring the Eagles 42-26. The Owls outshot the Eagles 42.3% to 36.7% and were able to secure 29 rebounds, which was the glaring factor that led to the Eagles' downfall— they could not defend the rebound. It was a game played fully by the Owls, and a game in which the Eagles can take it on the chin and move forward.

Nash Wobrock led the Eagles in points with 14 points, while Filip Mugosa followed up with 13 points. Oregon Tech's Keegan Shivers was able to pull away with a double double, shooting 12 points and nabbing 10 rebounds.

"We struggled to shoot the ball tonight and turned it over too much," said Head Coach Rick Skeen. "We need to continue to value the ball and knock down open shots with confidence.   Excited for our guys to continue to learn and grow."
