Eagles Kept Game Close in Defeat to Warriors

Kirkland, WA - The Northwest men's team performed valiantly despite loss to Warriors, 71-63.

It was a close game from the start, with neither team really able to shake off the other. However, the Warriors were able to eek out the win by staying in front for a majority of the game. Both offenses struggled in the first half, with the Warriors shooting 13-28 and 3-11 in three-pointers, while the Eagles shot 12-32 and only one out of their ten attempts at the three-point line. However, the difference maker was the Warriors nailing almost all of their free throws, going 6 for 7. This gave the Warriors the edge at halftime, 35-27.

The struggles outside the three-point line continued for both teams, with the Warriors going 0-2 and the Eagles shooting only 1-13, so most of the action took place within. The Warriors shot 12-25 and took advantage of the Eagles' physicality under the rim, making 12 of their 15 free throws. The Eagles shot 13-38 and made 9-12 of their free throws. The Eagles did indeed keep the game close, but their three-point woes and aggressive play allowed for LC State to pull off the win.

Nash Wobrock ran away with the scoring title in the game with 25 points, while Tay Aubry-Thomas followed behind with 10 points.

"I'm super proud of how hard our guys competed against a very good LCSC team," said Head Coach Rick Skeen. "We really took care of the ball with 5 turnovers and 13 assists. It was a tough shooting night, but some of that is credit to our opponent's defense."
