Eagles Keep Steady Pace for First Win of the Season

Kikrland, WA - The Northwest men's basketball team earned a much-deserved victory over Walla Walla, 79-63.

A five-game losing streak is not how the Eagles wanted to start the season. After a fierce battle with the Warriors, the Eagles welcomed the Wolves of Walla Walla Saturday and put the game to rest with a win.

In the first half, the Eagles shot 16-36, 4-12 in three-pointers, and 6-8 on the free throw line. The Eagles also impressed in the paint with 24 rebounds to set them over the edge on the Wolves, 42-32 at the half.

The second half was foul ridden, including a technical foul on Walla Walla's head coach. The Eagles were able to keep the momentum going, not giving the Wolves any chance to shine on offense. The Eagles limited the Wolves to only shoot 9-29 and 2-10 in three-pointers. The Eagles responded with shooting 14-32, 3-12 in threes, and 6-10 in free throws.

Tay Aubry-Thomas led the charge for the Eagles with a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Rashid Potter followed behind with 16 points, and Nash Wobrock got right behind with 15. Walla Walla's Soren Dalan also recorded a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds on the night

"It was tough not to have our head coach at the game tonight, but our guys responded with a gritty defensive effort," said Assistant Coach Adam Lynch.  "It was nice to pick up a conference win, and we look to build some momentum next week with three road games against very capable opponents."
