KIRKLAND, WA - The Eagles fought through a physical and tough match up against the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers and were able to come away on top, 76-69.
While the first half showed it would be a tight game all night, the Eagles were mostly able to stay one shot ahead of the Mountaineers. Though Eastern tried to even the score, Northwest ended up taking the lead into halftime.
Both teams came out of half hungry to score and capitalize on a lead. The Eagles and Mountaineers went back and forth for the first half of the final 20 minutes. Northwest was able to regain the lead with 12:36 to go. Eastern would not let the Eagles run away with the game as it continued to pressure Northwest and make crucial shots. The Mountaineers managed to come within one with 4:50 left. The Eagles were able to answer and regain a comfortable lead that would propel them to victory.
"We have been in so many of those games that it was exciting to break through and get a win," said Head Coach Rick Skeen. "I'm very excited and proud of our guys for continuing to plug away. Great team effort. Our defense was the best it has been this year."
Trent Williams led the Eagles with 18 points.
Luke Howard scored 12, and
Manuel Zapater led the squad with nine rebounds.
Northwest will host The College of Idaho tomorrow at 5 p.m. The Eagles will honor four seniors before the start of the game.
