KIRKLAND, WA - In a physical overtime matchup, the Eagles ran out of gas and were plagued by fouls to fall to Corban, 91-80.
The Eagles and Warriors battled as two evenly matched teams for the entirety of the night. Throughout the first half, the teams traded off being ahead as neither was willing to let the other gain a large lead. This came to a draw as Northwest and Corban went into halftime at 38 apiece.
A similar story played out in the second twenty minutes as both teams continued to make key shots and pressure the other to keep scoring. As the lead tethered back and forth between teams,
Manuel Zapater's final layup evened the score with 22 seconds to play. The teams would head into overtime.
As the extra five minutes played out, the Warriors hit crucial shots that gave them a cushion to finish the game ahead of the Eagles.
"We were one play away each night from a 2-0 weekend, but instead we are stinging from 2 painful losses," said NU Head Coach Rick Skeen. "Credit to our guys for how hard they competed and how well they executed our game plans each night. We will keep grinding and hope to get over the hump next week."
The Eagles saw two double-doubles tonight as
Luke Howard posted 20 points with 10 rebounds and
Manuel Zapater brought home 15 points with 10 rebounds.
Trent Williams knocked down 13 points.
The Eagles will take on Southern Oregon on Friday, Feb 9, at 7:30 p.m.
