Elizabeth Behnke Leads the Eagles in Track and Field Championships

KLAMATH FALLS, OR - Northwest University senior Elizabeth Behnke leads the Eagles at the two-day Cascade Collegaite Conference Championships.

"We had a great weekend at the CCC Championships," says Head Coach Mark Mandi. "We competed and supported each other so well, and I'm proud to be part of what God is doing here. The biggest surprise of the meet was Lizzy earning All-Conference honors in the 100m, running a blazing-fast time of 12.39 to win her heat of the 100m, which ended up being the 3rd fastest time of the day. She works so hard and finds ways to overcome training in our wet and cold environment."

Not only did the senior receive all-conference honors and a third place overall time, but Behnke beat her own NU school record of 12.69 with a new mark of 12.39.

Other standout performances include junior Jack Kopatich and  senior Jarron Ransford who each recorded personal bests in their respective events. On day one, Kopatich ran a 4:04.97 1500 meter. The following day, Ransford ran his new best in the 800 meter at 1:58.69.

Coach Mandi says, "Jack and Jarron were committed to competing from start to finish against a tough field of runners and will head into the cross country season with a ton of momentum to help lead our team."

"It's always bittersweet seeing our seniors compete for the last time, and we had several of them do that. Kaylea ran a gutsy 5k in the heat and altitude to score valuable points for the women's team. Kacey finished 6th in the javelin against some amazing competitors. Cameron ran his first and only 10k for NU, battling in that race until he crossed the line. All three of them close out amazing careers at NU, with each of them competing at the national championships at least once. Halsie competed well today against a standout field, and now she gets ready to close out her college career at the NAIA National Championships along with Micah. As we close out the season for most of our team, I'm thankful for what God has done and excited to see what's in store for the future!"
