Eagles Secure Win Against Wildcats

KIRKLAND, WA - Northwest University men's soccer claimed its first victory of the season beating the Linfield University Wildcats 3-2. The Eagles struck first in the 29th minute when Matt Ludlow opened the scoring assisted by Andre Santos. Northwest secured a second goal in the 41st minute, with Joao Fonseca slotting home a shot assisted by Brayden Corwin. Northwest dominated the play throughout the first half and took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Head Coach Gary McIntosh commented, "We have been waiting to play a half like this for the last five weeks. The guys controlled the half and limited Lindfield's opportunities."

In the second half, the Eagles started out playing strong. Northwest found the back of the net a third time when Corwin got a through ball by Fonseca and outpaced Linfield's back line to score his first goal of the season and the eventual game winner.

Ryan Hutchinson scored twice for the Wildcats in the 64th and 65th minute of the game to bring the scoreline closer, 3-2.  Northwest created several good scoring chances but could not put them away. The Eagles held on for their first victory of the season.

Freshman goalkeeper Justin Anderson played an important role by keeping the Eagles in front, recording eight saves throughout the match.

Coach McIntosh continued, "Great team victory today. Justin was outstanding in goal for us. He came up with some big saves that helped us win the game. Overall, I was pleased with how we prepared all week and then for how we played in the game today."
