Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Keegan Culp

Eagles' Strong Second Half Not Enough

Eugene, OR - The Northwest men's basketball team fall just short with a loss against Bushnell University 79-69.

It's been a tumultuous season for the Eagles as they head into this game on a six game losing streak, hoping to find any daylight. Their opponents, the Beacons, came off of two wins against LC State and Walla Walla the previous weekend and looked to get back to one game below .500 on the season.

The Beacons had a strong defensive first half, limiting the Eagles to only 27 points and nabbing five steals. The Beacons offense was also productive, shooting for 42.4% and scoring 34 points. The Eagles could not get it going which included an abysmal 12.5% on their threes. The Eagles needed a reset and they got it.

A massive improvement on offense for the traveling Eagles saw an impressive 42 points, clocking in 45.7% of their shots and splashing 77.8% of their free throws. As impressive as the Eagles were in the second, the Beacons were just a little better. The home team edged out with 45 points and shooting for 53.6% and 88.3% of their threes. It was enough to keep the game away from the Eagles as the Beacons secured the win.

Nash Wobrock continues to lead the team with a solid 19 point game while following behind him was Caleb Whalen with a point total of 13.

"Great effort from our guys tonight," said Head Coach Rick Skeen. "We had a lead midway through the second half and our guys played super hard and really shared the ball tonight. Losing is hard but we will keep focusing on controlling what we can control."
