Eagles Gas Out In Fiery Road Game

Eugene, OR - The Northwest women's basketball team fought hard against Bushnell University but came up just short of victory, falling 64-53.

Feeling the pressure of the four game losing streak, the Eagles were looking for a change of pace and a different outcome. They took on the Beacons, who snapped their seven game losing streak by beating Walla Walla in their previous game and are looking to turn their season around.

The Eagles managed to grasp the lead at the half against the Beacons in a hot start, leading at the halfway mark 30-26. The Eagles impressed especially on the free throw line, splashing 90% in the first and second. With stellar efforts from Kimberly Carrada Sanchez and Ellie De Waard, the Eagles looked poised to finally snap their losing streak.

However the Beacons had other ideas. The Beacons in the third quarter scored 22 through the power of three-pointers, shooting for a near perfect 80%. The Eagles managed to hang on by scoring 16, but by the time the fourth quarter rolled around, the Eagles lost all their steam. The Eagles only came out of the fourth with seven points while the Beacons iced the game with a 67% success rate on the free throw line.

Saydee Anderson tallied a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Kaleah Medeiros followed up with a 15 point performance. Beacon's Libby Mathis was able to record a double-double of her own, securing 14 points and 11 rebounds.

"Unfortunately, it felt like we let one get away and didn't close things here in the 4th," said Head Coach Randall Edens. "We found our way after a rough start to begin with, but ultimately we didn't make shots in the 4th we needed to in order to win a game."
