Eagles Win In a Low-Scoring Affair

Walla Walla, WA - The Northwest women's basketball team snap their six game losing streak against Walla Walla 45-34.

The game had to be moved to Whitman College, but it did not deter the Eagles from a win they desperately needed. The Eagles previously faced Corban and were dealt an 82-65 loss while the Wolves were on a losing streak of their own, with their last game coming at a loss against the Raiders. Additionally, the Wolves have only one conference win, which came against Multnomah on January 4.

The Eagles' defense was the key difference in this matchup. In the first quarter, the Eagles stunted the Wolves to two points as they missed every one of their 13 shots in the quarter. Throughout the whole game, the Eagles froze the Wolves to only one three pointer out of 17 attempts.

The Eagles' offense had some good looks by scoring 14 points in the first and 13 in the fourth. The Wolves made valiant efforts to pull ahead, even bringing the game to within six in the final quarter. But, the Eagles' offense steadied themselves and harvested a refreshing win.

Ellie DeWaard led the Eagles in scoring with 10 points while Kimberly Carrada Sanchez and Kaleah Medeiros both tallied seven. Chariah Daniels of the Wolves notched a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds on the afternoon.

"We were magnificent defensively especially in the 1st quarter," said Head Coach Randall Edens. "No FG from Walla Walla as their points came from a couple of free throws. As we got to the second quarter a little better offensively but we found our way collectively with balance and that's something we've been talking about. The second half was a struggle for both squads but a win anytime on the road is significant and we will take it."
