Eagles Get Suffocated In Second Quarter

Lewiston, ID - The Northwest women's basketball team lose to a strong LC State squad 86-45.

The Eagles finally exercised their losing streak against Walla Walla on Friday night, but the celebrations had to be cut short. The Warriors of LC State were on the docket next and they came into the night third in the conference and fresh off a convincing win against the Geoducks.

The Warriors came out of the woodwork shooting for 55.6% of their shots and knocking down half of their three pointers, displaying their high-flying offense that has been their biggest strength all season. The Eagles were able to stay in the game by scoring 13 points and shooting for 41.7% and hitting 42.9% of their threes. Despite the score, it seemed the Eagles were poised to make this into a close game.

However, the wheels fell right off during the second quarter.  The Eagles only mustered a single point in the entire ten-minute quarter; that's how stifling the Warriors' defense was! Additionally, the Warriors put up 42.9% of their shots to seal the first half with a 44-14 lead.

The Warriors kept their foot on the gas and never wavered. Shooting for an incredible 69.2% in the third to keep the game in their ironclad grasp. With 28 assists and 41 rebounds for the whole game, the Warriors worked like a well-oiled machine and dominated the Eagles in all fronts for the win.

Kaleah Medeiros and Kimberly Carrada Sanchez both tallied 13 points on the night while Charlize Katz trailed with five points.

"Tough second quarters set us back and has been the case at times," said Head Coach Randall Edens. "We go too long of stretches where we allow the game to escape us and that is the byproduct of a young roster and having the maturity in those situations to rise up.  The second half was better and we have talked about making that the first half and how that would change the game entirely. Excited about our bench efforts though in the second half with Chloe Kennedy and Jaelyn Moeve with really productive minutes for us amongst that crew."
