Lewiston, Idaho - The Eagles found themselves taking on another ranked conference opponent in the LC-State Warriors. No. 11 LC-State proved their ranking tonight as they took down No. 18 Northwest University.
While the first set started as a back-and-forth affair, the Warriors were quick to take the lead and create space for themselves to claim a quick first set victory. In the second set, the Eagles fought for the lead and to keep the match within striking distance. While they tied the set at 24-24, LC-State grabbed the final two points and found themselves up 2-0 in the match.
In a must-win set, the Eagles again found themselves neck-and-neck with the Warriors for the first half of the set. But, LC was determined to not let the Eagles find their rhythm. They started to pull away and gain enough lead that the Eagles could not catch up.
Kaitlyn Mickle led the Eagles with 14 kills on the night.
"At the end of the day, most matches will come down to first contacts when you serve and pass and tonight's match was no different," said NU Head Coach Steve Bain. "LCSC was the better team in every phase of the game and their resolve and preparation proved more than we could overcome. We have a good group though and I expect us to bounce back with a solid effort tomorrow."
The Eagles head to Walla Walla for a late night match up tomorrow evening.
