INDEPENDENCE, Ore. - Northwest showed strength at the George Oja Invitational as school records were set and personal bests were made.

The men were led by transfer, William Lanser, who finished with a time of 24:36.7 which placed him in 26th place overall. Eight seconds behind Lanser came sophomore, Josiah Jaquith, who finished in 34th place. Both of these times put Lanser and Jaquith in the school record book for top 10 times in the 8k. Overall, the men finished 9th out of 32 teams with an average time of 25:14.7.

The women had a strong showing as each runner set a personal best on the course. The women were led by Rachel Elliott who finished 56th with a time of 22:27.0. Her time also set a new school record in the 6k. Hannah Capusan and Marissa Guthrie followed Elliott with times of 24:03.5 and 24:08.4 respectively. The women finished 20th out of a strong 31 teams.

"Great run for our team," said NU Head Coach Mark Mandi. "We wanted to give honor to God and I think we did that. When it got tough out there, I heard a lot of our students saying they leaned into the Spirit to help and they found strength in remembering how Christ suffered for God's glory and our salvation. There was also a lot to celebrate with some amazing performances. Every woman set a personal best today and that was highlighted by Rachel Elliott's school record for 6k! We've seen how hard she works and how talented she is so it was amazing to see it come together in such a big way. On the men's side, they set another school record for team time and the exciting thing is that we know there's more left in the tank. Will Lanser and Josiah Jaquith both ran some of the fastest times in school history for 8k and that helped lead a bunch of the guys to personal bests."
