SNOHOMISH, Wash. - In a Friday evening match-up, the Eagles dropped a hard-fought match against Eastern Oregon in a defensive battle, ultimately falling 1-0. The Mountaineers were able to find the back of the net in the last minutes of the game to come away with the win.
The game was a defensive struggle for both sides throughout the first period, with both teams scoreless heading into the break. Northwest's offense managed only one shot in the first 45 minutes, a shot by
Gracie VanAssche that was saved by Eastern Oregon's goalkeeper, Rylee Schei. Goalkeeper
Katie Snow of Northwest (WA) kept the Mountaineers off the board with three saves in the first period.
The Eagles stepped up their offensive pressure in the second half, recording four shots. However, the Eagles' defense was finally broken in the 87th minute. Eastern Oregon's Karina DeYoung scored the match's lone goal at the 86:32 mark, assisted by Ava Henkemeyer, to secure the 1-0 victory for the visitors.
VanAssche had a shot hit the crossbar in the 88th minute, narrowly missing the equalizer.
Northwest will close out the regular season against College of Idaho at 3:00 PM tomorrow at Glacier Peak High School.
