KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Eagles finish the weekend with a sweep as they outlast the Oregon Tech Owls, 25-16, 25-18, 26-24.
Northwest came out hot as they got out to an early 9-1 lead in the first set. The Eagles continued to charge ahead as the kept the Owls at arms-length. Oregon Tech started to find a rhythm late into the set, but the Eagles were able to close it out to go up 1-0.
The second and third sets would prove closer as both teams traded points back and forth to start the second set. The Eagles slowly managed to take the lead and closed out the set to go up 2-0.
Northwest got out to an early lead in the third set off
Morgan Harter's serves. But, the Owls rallied and tied the game 8-8 to even the set. From there, the teams would trade points with no team able to pull away. Tied at 24, the Eagles were able to close it out and take home the win to go 2-0 on the weekend.
"We knew going into this match that Oregon Tech was a much better team than their record and they didn't disappoint," said NU Head Coach Steve Bain. "They made it difficult to score and there were moments that challenged us to match their intensity. On our side of the net, I thought we played with great resolve, especially in sets 2 and 3 as our ladies were able to make the plays to close out the set and win the match. Overall, we have made steady progress over the first half of the season and I know the team is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead."
Kaitlyn Mickle led the Eagles with 10 kills on the night while
Morgan Harter tallied 27 assists.
The Eagles will stay home next weekend as they face top ranked Eastern Oregon on Friday at 6:00 PM.
