BUTTE, Montana - The Northwest University Eagles started their Montana road trip against the No. 7 Montana Tech Orediggers on Friday. While Northwest rallied in the second half, they ultimately fell short with a final score of 90-73.
Montana Tech built an early lead, taking a commanding 55-30 advantage into the locker room at halftime. However, the Eagles responded with an impressive offensive burst in the second period, putting up 43 points compared to Montana Tech's 35. While the comeback was not enough to get the victory, the Eagles saw positive performances from multiple guys in double digits on the night.
The Eagles were particularly sharp from beyond the arc, knocking down 14-of-32 three-pointers for a team shooting percentage of 43.8%.
Logan Stempniak led the team in scoring with a robust 16 points. Stempniak proved highly efficient, hitting four three-pointers and contributing on the boards with a team-high six rebounds. Ethan Martin was equally effective from long range, draining four three-pointers on six attempts to finish with 14 points.
"Tonight showed why they are No. 7 in the nation," said NU Head Coach Rick Skeen. "They beat us at every phase of the game, but I'm hopeful our guys gained a sense of how hard and how connected you have to be to play at that level. We did show our fight in the second half."
The Eagles finish their weekend in Montana at the University of Providence tomorrow at 2:00 PM PST.
