ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Northwest University women's basketball team tipped off their 2025–26 season on the road Friday night, facing NCAA Division II opponent University of Alaska Anchorage. The Seawolves came out fast, taking control early with a 36–14 lead after the first quarter.
Despite the tough start, the Eagles battled back over the next three quarters, showing resilience and offensive balance in their season debut.
Junior
Jersey McGehee led the Eagles with 17 points and 2 assists. Freshman
Ellie Bost followed closely with 16 points and 6 assists, while Senior
Ellie DeWaard posted a strong effort inside with 15 points and 8 rebounds.
"We had to endure a shooting onslaught to start the game and yet we outscored them in the 2nd half 39-31," said NU Head Coach Randy Edens. "With such a young roster, there will be some growing pains along the way, but we've also found out that against D1 and D2 opponents this week, you need to be collectively on point for all 40 minutes. Furthermore, having 5 young ladies in double figures is hopefully a good sign of things to come."
Northwest continued to compete through the final whistle but ultimately fell, 107–82. The Eagles will look to bounce back quickly as they face Alaska Anchorage again tomorrow in game two of the road series.
