ASHLAND, Ore. – The Eagles women's basketball team opened their Cascade Collegiate Conference season on the road Friday, falling to the Southern Oregon Raiders, 71-36.
The Eagles struggled to find an offensive rhythm, particularly in the first half, managing just 15 points (8 in the first quarter, 7 in the second). Southern Oregon capitalized on the Eagles' slow start, taking a significant lead early and never looking back.
Northwest's offense finished the night shooting 25.9% from the field (15-58).
Kaleah Medeiros led the way for Northwest with eight points on 4-of-9 shooting, along with four rebounds and three assists.
Ella Whitaker and
Jersey McGehee added six points each while Whitaker tallied five rebounds and McGehee was perfect from the free throw line. Off the bench,
Taimane Faleafine-Auwae provided 7 points, along with 2 steals.
"Tough one today for the Eagles," said NU Head Coach Randy Edens. "League openers have a little different feel to them and we struggled shooting the ball there in the first half. Had things within a competitive nature with about eight minutes to go before the game got away from us. Hopefully a better offensive start can compliment our defensive efforts for most of the game."
The Eagles will look to bounce back and secure their first CCC victory as they head to OIT tomorrow.
