LA GRANDE, OR - The Northwest men's basketball team fell just shy against Eastern Oregon 94-85.
Â
The Eagles wanted to forget the events that occurred over Sunday against Bushnell and looked forward to the final road trip of the season. Their first stop was against the Mountaineers who were coming off a scary display of dominance against Warner Pac last Saturday 102-63.Â
Â
It was a tightly fought contest, and even though the Mountaineers led the entire way, the Eagles did not lose sight of the game by more than 12 points. The Eagles managed a 7-2 point stretch in the final two minutes of the first half to stay within striking distance 42-38. The Eagles stayed with the home squad deep into the second half but just couldn't keep up in the end ultimately falling just short.Â
Â
The details of the game came down to the depth and quality of shots. The Mountaineers strung together 60 whole points from their bench while the Eagles only managed 29. On the shooting side, the Eagles unloaded with an impressive 73 total shots, but only converted on 31 of those shots. Meanwhile the Mountaineers were dominant, especially beyond the three-point line, as far as going perfect in the second half. It was the quality of offense that led to the Mountaineers taking the win tonight.Â
Â
Nash Wobrock led the team in points with 19 and Filip Mugosa and Ethan Martin both bucketed 16 points on the night.Â
Â
"Our guys really competed tonight," said Head Coach Rick Skeen. "It was fun to see the effort and joy they played with. We played well on the offensive end but struggled to get stops. Proud of how our guys stayed together tonight."
