Kirkland, WA - The Northwest women's basketball team struggled offensively against Evergreen State, losing 74-51.
Despite a new three-game losing streak looming overhead, the Eagles have been playing vigorous basketball, making their opponents have to fight back. Their next opponent were the Geoducks, ranked dead last in the conference with a 3-12 record going into this matchup.
It was a game lost in the first quarter. The Eagles' offense struggled to tally any points on the board, only putting up two while the Geoducks scored 15. Shooting 1-17 (5.9%) and missing all 11 shots from the three-point line, the Eagles could not shake the funk the entire game. While the Eagles managed to outscore the Geoducks in the second, the offense still couldn't get out of the hole.
Meanwhile, the Geoducks' offense steadily got better as the game went on, especially in the third and fourth quarter. The Geoducks hit half of their shots and half of their three-pointers in the third, while in the fourth, they splashed 69.2% and 67% of their threes. It was a game where the fundamentals decided the outcome.
Kaleah Medeiros led the team in points with 17, and Saydee Anderson followed up with 11 points on the night.
"First quarter set us back with some tough shooting and made the rest of the way an uphill climb," said Head Coach Randall Edens. "Unfortunately it forces us to have to play differently than we would like to, especially in the second half, and now simple mistakes get compounded. Give credit to Evergreen who had a few young ladies who stepped up here in game two than what we saw from them in game one, and that combined with our difficult start proved to be the difference."
