Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Keegan Culp

Second Half Slips Away From Eagles

Portland, OR - The Northwest men's basketball team's offense could not produce as they fall to Warner Pacific, 70-64.

The Eagles had all the momentum going into this matchup with their first two-win stretch of the season against Oregon Tech and Evergreen State. Meanwhile, on the other side of the court, the Knights faced a two-game losing streak, falling to the sword against LC State and Walla Walla. The Eagles and Knights previously met up on Dec. 21 when the Knights handled the Eagles, 84-72.

It was a tale of completely different halves. The Eagles had the upper hand in the first half, outscoring the Knights 41-32 and limiting the home team to only one three-pointer out of ten. The Eagles' offense put up respectable numbers in the first, shooting for 43.2% and hitting 42.1% of their threes. The Eagles were looking strong heading into the second,

However, the Knights slowly chipped away at the Eagles' lead until they gained control in the second half. The Knights took the lead, 48-46, seven minutes into the second half, and the Eagles' offensive production came to a halt. They tallied 23 points in the half and shot for 20% and 12.5% on threes. With the Eagles' second-half collapse and the Knights shooting 44.4%, the game turned on its heels and slipped away from the Eagles' grasp.

Trent Williams led the team on the night with 14 points, while Shane McGaughey-Fick followed up with 12 points.

"Great first half, but we struggled in the second half," said Head Coach Rick Skeen. "We got away from playing together and doing the things that have made us successful. Credit to Warner Pac—they got the job done, and we didn't."
