Portland, OR - The Northwest men's basketball team took a hard-pressed game against Multnomah, but it wasn't enough as they went down, 110-103.
After a slow second half against Warner Pac, the Eagles hoped to rebound against an upcoming tough opponent. The Lions entered this game as the third-best scoring offense in the conference and had secured a big win against Evergreen State on Friday. This will be the Eagles' and Lions' final meeting, as Multnomah will be shutting down their athletics program in the fall.
The Eagles and Lions were comparable to each other on offense, as both teams were lectric in shooting. The Eagles shot for 59.3% the whole game, while the Lions dropped 62.9%. Both teams executed on the three-point line as well, with the Eagles splashing 60% and the Lions drilling 53.3% The Eagles also managed an explosive bench game with 60 points, and it kept them far into the contest.
Where the Lions won out, which became the key difference, was in the paint and points off turnovers. The Lions had a field day as they proclaimed 62 points in the paint and recorded 22 points off turnovers. In addition, the Lions had two players who tallied more than 20 points—Braedon Edison and Keilan Torkornoo. Complete with the Lions' total offense, the Eagles could not keep up against such a strong team sniffing the playoffs.
Caleb Whalen dazzled on the court with 26 points, while Trent Williams came out with 19 points.
"Our guys showed a lot of heart bouncing back tonight," said Head Coach Rick Skeen. "We had too many turnovers and really struggled to get stops. Credit to Multnomah, as they are a very talented team that presented a lot of matchup problems."
