Close Game Escapes Eagles

Portland, OR - The Northwest women's basketball team struggled in the final minutes against Multnomah, falling 74-65.

The Eagles had an explosive offense against Warner Pac, carried by an incredible solo performance from Kaleah Medeiros, giving life to the Eagles when they needed it. The Lions entered this game on the back of a four-game losing streak, with their last loss coming against Evergreen State on Friday. This will be the Eagles' and Lions' final ever meetup, as Multnomah will close their athletic program in the fall.

It was a close bout that saw 17 total lead changes throughout the entire contest with neither side able to shake off the other. Both teams were comparable to each other on offense, as the Eagles shot 21-59, and the Lions shot 29-62. Both teams were busy on the rebounds as well, with the Eagles recording 35 total while the Lions pushed 41.

The big difference came down to the fourth quarter. In the final four minutes of the game, the Lions strung together a 13-point run that the Eagles could not stop. This and the finer details of securing more defensive rebounds was just enough to give the Lions the edge and the win in a closely fought battle.

Kimberly Carrada Sanchez had a magnificent game with 24 points on the board, while Saydee Anderson brought 17 points to the table.

"Tough one today," said Head Coach Randall Edens. "Had a lead in the fourth late and hung around until we had a couple of tough shots  and a turnover late while Multnomah was able to execute down the stretch. We certainly didn't shoot as well as we did yesterday but we had a lot of positive numbers; they just didn't translate to a win. It grew to nine because we needed to foul late, and they hit some free throws down the stretch."
