Eagles Sweep Conference Rivals

KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Northwest University women's volleyball team swept Evergreen State College in dominant fashion.

The Eagles put up a strong fight against the LC State Warriors on Saturday, but came up just short of the goal in the fifth set. The Geoducks meanwhile, have been swept in every game they have played so far.

The Eagles wasted no time establishing dominance. The Eagles jumped out an 8-0 lead and never looked back. Despite the Geoducks best efforts to get back into the set being down 13-7, The Eagles strung together a 10-1 run that launched themselves out of harm's way. After a short 3-point burst by the Geoducks, the Eagles would secure a 25-11 win.

The Eagles jumped out to the early lead again in the second set, starting it with a 9-1 lead. However, the Geoducks managed to pull themselves within three after pulling a 6-1 run. The Eagles ran a riot of a 13-point stretch that hurled them right in striking distance. The Eagles would get the win 25-9.

The third set didn't start like the others, the Geoducks pulled ahead with a 5-1 lead, their biggest in the match. It would take long, however, for the Eagles to take over and get the game back on their terms. With the score at 16-9, the Eagles then bagged a 6-1 run and managed a three-point run to finish the set 25-13 and win the match.

"Evergreen always plays with great effort and enthusiasm, and we challenged our ladies to match their energy at every point. For the most part they did just that, and we were pleased with their mindset and commitment to win the first contact battle. That commitment was a huge key to tonight's match."

The Eagles will have a quick turnaround as they travel down to Portland to face Warner Pacific at 6:00 PM on Thursday.
